
What's this, then?
The new black 5,25" floppy disks for batch #2 of The Bear Essentials are unnotched, and I don't feel like notching 250 disks, so I had to modify one of my drives to ignore the write protection.
There's a fancy way of doing this with a switch to turn it on/off but since I don't have the required components I went for a temporary solution.
I used the same 1541-II drive I used to copy batch #1, because it works perfectly and the top lid was already loose.
First I unscrewed the little green circuit board with the sensor that checks if the disk is write protected.
Then I used a piece of metal wire to connect the green and orange wire in the picture, tricking the drive into thinking that the unnotched disks aren't write protected.
It works great, so far I've copied the game onto 50 unnotched disks! :) Batch #2 will start shipping soon.
